Elden Ring Plans to Go Beyond Just Video Games Into Other Media

It looks like Bandai Namco plans to expand the Elden Ring franchise beyond just video games.

In a press release on the Bandai Namco website, company CEO Yasuo Miyakawa commented on the potential for Elden Ring to expand into other mediums. “We will continue to develop ELDEN RING not only as a game but also in a variety of other areas in order to deliver the worldview and charm of this title to our fans around the world,” said Miyakawa. “We look forward to your continued support.”

It’s not clear what this could mean specifically, but it suggests that the Elden Ring property has the potential to be more than just a game. Whether that means simple merchandise, or other media endeavours like movies, animated shows, or novels is currently anyone’s guess.

Elsewhere in the press release, From Software director, Hidetaka Miyazaki said that the game’s world is “based off of legends written for the game by George R. R. Martin,” so there’s definitely potential for expansion there – perhaps in the same way as Game of Thrones is now getting prequels to flesh out the fantasy world’s history.

For now, we’ll have to wait and see, but perhaps we’ll hear more ahead of the game’s release. As announced during last night’s Summer Games Fest show, Elden Ring is coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S and PC via Steam on January 21, 2022.

In other Elden Ring news, a little walking pot, a sweet shambling vase boy, has become the subreddit’s unlikely new hero. A more in-depth plot synopsis has also been revealed for the game.
