Halo Infinite BTB Patch In The Works, Along With February Update To Address Cheating And More

The Halo Infinite development team is back at work after a vacation break, and the studio has now outlined some of its plans for the future, including improvements to Big Team Battle.

In a blog post, Community Director Brian Jarrard said the team of 343 is now “largely back in action” and that the current focus provides a solution to the BTB issues that have been affecting the game for weeks now. “As you know, we’ve been dealing with some frustrating issues with BTB almost since launch and despite a few attempts to fix and reduce this before the holidays, we were unable to resolve this,” Jarrard said. “While BTB has remained playable, there are matchmaking issues that are increasing as more players and larger fireteams have a low probability of successfully participating in a game together.”

343 gathered an “attack force” that worked on the BTB issues over the holidays, and this team has now found a solution to the “core issue” affecting the mode. The update entered a testing phase last week and “so far it looks positive,” Jarrard said.

The update will then be certified and if approved for release it will be released some time after, although 343 doesn’t have an ETA yet for when that could be.

“The next steps are to continue testing and then move on to the certification process as we prepare to release a hotfix/patch for this issue,” Jarrard added. “It’s still a little early to give an estimated time of arrival, but know that our goal is to release this as soon as possible and make sure it doesn’t have another unintended impact on the retail product. It won’t be this one.” week, but we hope it won’t be too much further and we’ll share an update as soon as we have a release date in sight (once we clear ‘cert’ we’ll be ready to ship).”

Also in the post, Jarrard acknowledged that Halo Infinite fans crave additional updates beyond the improvements to BTB, including tackling cheating. A patch to address some of the cheat issues, among other things, is planned for mid-February.

“We are actively triaged and are still working to get as much as possible in this February update while still making sure there are no negative effects or regressions to other parts of the game,” Jarrard said.

343 is currently targeting the BTB fixes due to its “broad impact on all players”. The studio remains focused on cheating and general “wonkiness” with Halo Infinite’s ranked multiplayer, but BTB is the current priority.

“Thank you for your patience and continued support. While we were overwhelmed and humbled by the reception and launch of Halo Infinite, we now have a lot to do as a live service studio,” Jarrard said. “We will continue to make improvements and provide feedback where we can – although some things will take longer than many of you, and we, would like. Thanks – keep the feedback coming – we’re doing this together with a great foundation to grow up and evolve. Stay tuned for more details.”
