How to get Revision Zero and its catalysts in Destiny 2

Claim and upgrade this craftable exotic pulse rifle.

Destiny 2 Revision Zero exotic pulse rifle

Revision Zero is Destiny 2’s newest exotic weapon; a kinetic, anti-barrier pulse rifle that can also dabble in a bit sniping with its alternate firing mode. As you shoot enemies in their weak spots you build targeting data, and once you have enough, you can enter Hunter’s Trace mode and flip up the scope to fire some high-damage precision shots. Like Osteo Striga, it also has craftable catalysts, so you shouldn’t have to run around killing a thousand enemies with it.

That said, your ability to upgrade the gun is based on quest progress and finding catalysts in the Seraph’s Shield mission. This will also allow you to upgrade your intrinsic, and in turn, change the barrel, magazine, trait, and stock that your gun has. You’ll also still need to level your gun in order to choose these upgrades.

In this Revision Zero guide, I’ll explain how to get the gun, its catalysts, and how it works in general. There are also Security Drones (opens in new tab) scattered across Luna, Europa, the Heist Battlegrounds missions, and Seraph’s Shield that can only be destroyed with Revision Zero. Shoot all of them and you can unlock a special door on the Seraph Station that contains a fun secret.

How to get Revision Zero

Revision Zero is tied to the Operation: Seraph’s Shield exotic mission that you can unlock by completing the main story quests in the Season of the Seraph. This mission sees you infiltrate an orbital space station and is a bit like Presage from Season of the Chosen. It features a bunch of secrets and even upgrades you’ll be able to purchase from the Exo Frame in the HELM that will unlock secret areas and chests.

All you need to do to get Revision Zero is complete Seraph’s Shield. The mission itself uses the same puzzle mechanics as the Deep Stone Crypt raid, letting you pick up augments from defeated enemies who have glowing symbols above their heads. These allow you to scan glowing objects, shoot buttons, and suppress enemies by shooting them while standing underneath hovering orbs, and that’s how you solve the mission’s puzzles.

The trickiest part of Seraph’s Shield you are likely to come across if playing by yourself is the ‘microwave’, where you have to walk along certain tiles in a big room and activate three switches. If you step on the wrong tile you get zapped. Luckily, the safe tiles in the room never change, and you can see them from outside when you have the scanner buff. The switches you have to activate do change, however, but you can tell which ones you need to hit by looking through the window of the room above with the scanner buff. Some will be glowing, and those are the right ones.

The final boss is also a little tricky. Damage them until they become immune, then jump up into the rafters and steal the Operator buff from the vandal. Now, shoot the boss while under each of the three floating orbs to suppress them, then find and destroy the three revealed shield generators to the far right, the far left, and underneath the bosses feet. This will allow you to deal damage to them.

Revision Zero crafting

When you complete Seraph’s Shield for the first time, you’ll get a red border version of the weapon. It may feel counterintuitive, but feel free to dismantle this gun to unlock its pattern, especially since the mission requires you to shape one, and there’s only one version of the gun you can create at first anyway. Head to the enclave on Mars and craft Revision Zero, then go to the Relic Conduit just to the left of the crafting station to complete the mission.

This pulse rifle is a little like Osteo Striga in that its catalyst is a craftable part of the weapon. It also has four ‘Intrinsic’ levels of Hunter’s Trace, which is what you’ll need to gain to access new barrels, magazines, traits, and stocks. You can unlock these by completing Legend Seraph’s shield, and the catalysts by completing the ‘Should You Choose to Accept It’ quests.

Revision Zero has four catalysts that add known perks to the gun:

Frenzy Refit (Feeding Frenzy): Each rapid kill with this weapon progressively increases reload speed for a short time.Pressurized Refit (Under Pressure): Improved stability and accuracy as your magazine gets lowerOutlaw Refit (Outlaw): Precision kills greatly decrease reload time4-Timer Refit (Fourth Time’s the Charm): Rapidly landing precision hits will return two rounds to the magazine

There are currently three catalysts available as of writing this and I’ll explain how to get them down below.

Should You Choose to Accept It part 1

Image 1 of 2Destiny 2 Revision Zero catalyst - cipher console in PerditionFind the cipher console in the Perdition lost sector in Cadmus Ridge (Image credit: Bungie)Destiny 2 Revision Zero catalyst - dead Exo oneThe dead Exo is inside the microwave room, to the right of the exit (Image credit: Bungie)

Part one of the ‘Should You Choose to Accept It’ quest consists of these steps:

Complete Operation: Archimedes from the HELMHead to Europa for further instructionsComplete patrols and defeat enemies on EuropaComplete the Perdition lost sector and enter the cipher at the console just after its final bossFind the first dead Exo in the microwave room on Legend difficulty Seraph’s Shield then complete the mission

The trickiest step of these quests is finding the dead Exo, but luckily the first is directly in your path. You can find it in the microwave room that requires you to walk on certain floor tiles and activate switches. Simply activate the body, and then complete the mission to get the catalyst from the final chest. If you want to get it done speedily, I’d recommend bringing a friend or using the Destiny 2 app to find a fireteam.

Should You Choose to Accept It part 2

Part two of the ‘Should You Choose to Accept It’ quest consists of these steps:

Complete Operation: Archimedes from the HELMHead to the moon for further instructionsComplete patrols and defeat enemies on the moonComplete the K1 Logistics lost sector and enter the cipher at the console just after the chestFind the second dead Exo in the vent on Legend difficulty Seraph’s Shield and complete the mission

The second dead Exo is a little more hidden than the first. When you get to the section where the Hive first appear, you’ll have to shoot a switch with the Operator buff that opens a door into a room with two knights and two shriekers. Head through the vent on the right side of that room as you usually would to shoot the next switch, but keep going along the vent instead, and you’ll find the dead Exo. Now just finish off the mission to get the catalyst.

Should You Choose to Accept It part 3

Part three of the ‘Should You Choose to Accept It’ quest consists of these steps:

Complete Operation: Archimedes from the HELMHead to the EDZ for further instructionsComplete patrols and defeat enemies in the EDZComplete the Terminus East lost sector and enter the cipher at the console just to right of the chestFind the third dead Exo in the Hive boss room on Legend difficulty Seraph’s Shield and complete the mission

The third dead Exo is in the room where you fight the Hive boss for the first time on Legend difficulty. When you enter, turn right, and right again in a small entrance. The dead Exo is lying against the left wall, so simply collect, and then complete that run of Seraph’s Shield to get the catalyst.
