The annual charity Speed Running Marathon Awesome Games Done Quick continues this week, allowing players of all kinds of games to show off their fast-paced game street. This year’s Stardew Valley speedrun category was completing the Town Community Center with glitches – and oh boy, the hexes were definitely flowing.
Speed Runner Olinonim was the Stardew Runner this year, and he rightly said before his playthrough with this warning: “This race will go very fast and it is going to start really fast, so I hope That you are ready. ” Then he blew the absolute hell out of his farm.
Olenoname launched Stardew in the exact opposite way we ordinary people do. He immediately removed a bunch of his tools, magically packed a ton of items into his inventory, and then dropped bombs on his entire farm. It is definitely faster than cutting down all these trees one by one.
As Olenoname and his fellow commentators have pointed out, this slow-moving spider is dependent on abusing a particular trick that can catch your eye on the character creation screen before it starts playing.
Often in the Valley Stardio, your friends and neighbors will stop by your farm and give you various items as gifts. Olenoname explains that the process of receiving items during a dialog is controlled by the item codes hidden within that dialog. By naming your character with a very long list of item codes, if an NPC addresses him by his name, he can give the game the same long list of items. Some of these items are mega bombs, so aggressive tree clearing techniques.
Despite all of this, Olenoname actually spends some time growing some of its own crops and raising a few chickens. This is a fast race, which comes in just over 17 minutes, which you can catch from scratch in the video above.
If you’ve lost it, you can see what happened to Stardew. Stardio Valley Cup Co-hosted by developer Eric Barron in September.
