Steelrising, the alternate history game set amid the French Revolution, revealed more of its storyline today at IGN Expo.
In a new story trailer, developer Spiders (Greedfall) showed off its take on an altered Paris. The year is 1789, the same year Parisians stormed the Bastille as part of the French Revolution. Except instead of leading to the crown’s downfall, King Louis XVI, a noted clockmaker, built an army of robots to stop the revolution.
With the human population being massacred by the crown, players will take the role of the Aegis, one of Louis XVI’s automata gone rogue, and a bodyguard for Marie-Antoinette. As Aegis, players will fight through Paris overrun by machines and fight through the challenging enemies that have taken the city.
There are still plenty of questions in this new version of history. Are the Queen and King of France on opposite sides of one another? And of course, what will end up happening if things don’t go the way they did in our timeline? Spiders is leaving these questions in the air for now, but it’s an intriguing premise.
